Communication is key for anything - letting your customers know where you are in the product execution and development or letting them understand the complexities in solving said problem

But how does one communicate?

This is where the curse of knowledge comes in - never assume the other party knows what you are talking about.

you are cursed with knowledge - hence take a step back and learn to map out your work in the most simplest way possible where at first glance one knows the timeline and complexities it takes to execute said operation.

lets take the rnd of executing a physical product for fertilizer industry

one needs to communicate with customers and internal stakeholders where the laboratory stands with respect to the timeline

the concept of chemical and biobased technologies is very complex hence to ensure nobody is overwhelmed a simpler method to forecast this would be to breakdown each stage of the development cycle into a readiness level and map it out so everyone is aligned on when to prepare further investment with respect to time and money.

TRL shouldnt just be used to forecast product timelines - you can also study ways to map out complexities in problem solving (to justify cost for high profile clients)

communication is vital but take a step back and learn to forecast your knowledge in bite size pieces.

flexing your muscles wont help anybody - we all want the same thing and that is to try and push and idea to market
